Welcome to PhreakNET

What's PhreakNET?

PhreakNET is the volunteer-operated network that's spun up in support of PhreakNIC, our favorite unhinged hacker con.

Getting Connected

WiFi: Creds are PhreakNET:PhreakNET for the regular network. No isolation, no captive portal, no bullshit.

Guest WiFi: Creds are PhreakNET_isolated:PhreakNET. Still no captive portal, but a minimum of bullshit (aka logging into the network and then not being bothered again for 9999 minutes unless your MAC address changes). Use this one if you have no plans on using any of the hosted services and only want an internet connection.

Wired: Just plug into the table switches. Ask for a network cable if you didn't bring one. If your laptop is too thin/new to have an RJ45 port, you'll have to bring your own adapter. 2.5 gigabit ports are available in limited quantities upon request, if you have your own adapter. If you want a 10 gig internal connection to the main network, these ports are available in even more limited quantities. Bring your own DAC, some sort of alcohol-related bribe, and a damn good reason. There's no network isolation.

The Clarion pays for gigabit internet. Unlike last year, their internal network is now a /20. Using their Walmart grade shitnet might be fine, but PhreakNET will probably be a better experience.

Network Services

PhreakNET is all gigabit internally, and purposely kept as simple as possible so that it's not in the way. 2.5G and 10G are available. The services that have internal DNS records also have resolveable short names. To minimize drunken confusion, you need to be connected to PhreakNET in order to access

copyparty: The primary reason you might want to join PhreakNET. It's the one service on the network that has a 10 gig connection. Among other things, you'll find the vx-underground malware files, an archive of the past PhreakNIC videos, as well as a bunch of data breaches and old hacking zines. We're bringing 11 TB of data, with a spare 13 TB available for uploads. Happy hunting!

IRC: We'll be available for shitposting support at irc.phreaknet.internal. If you want to be one of the cool kids, use irssi or weechat. If you just want a slick experience, we might spin up The Lounge.

There currently aren't any other planned services, aside from some backend stuff for up/down alerting. If you have an idea for a service and it can run on Debian, run it by us and we might do some drunken provisioning during the conference. We've already had 2 Shadow IT networks spring up and don't want to push it with the power draw, so maybe don't ask to plug in a full 42U rack full of gear.
